Compaund — Build habits that stick

Compaund is a science-based habit tracker built on the principles of behavior change: the 4 Laws, habit stacking, identity-based habits, and the 2-minute rule. This page explains how the app works and how to get the most out of it.

Getting Started

Compaund is organized into five tabs at the bottom of the screen:

Creating a Habit

Tap the Build tab to start. You can pick from one of the pre-built templates (fitness, productivity, nutrition, mindfulness, learning, or social) or start from scratch.

Expand the advanced section to define your habit using the 4 Laws of Behavior Change:

Habit Slots

To help you focus, Compaund limits how many habits you can track at once. You start with 5 habit slots and earn more by proving consistency:

Once earned, bonus slots are permanent — even if the streak later breaks.

Tracking & Streaks

On the Dashboard, tap the circle next to a habit to mark it complete for today. One completion per habit per day.

Your current streak counts consecutive days completed. If you haven't completed today's habit yet, the streak still counts — you have until the end of the day. Your longest streak is always preserved.

Planned Breaks (Vacation Mode)

Going on holiday? Open a habit's detail view and add a planned break with start and end dates. Days during a planned break won't count against your streak.

Breaking Bad Habits

The Break tab helps you track habits you want to eliminate. Add a bad habit, then log each craving or urge as it happens. Each entry captures:

Over time, Compaund identifies your most common triggers and shows your resistance success rate so you can spot patterns and improve.

Progress & Insights

The Progress tab shows your data across 7, 30, or 90 days:

Compaund also generates automatic insights celebrating milestones (7-day, 21-day, 30-day, and 66-day streaks) and flagging performance dips so you can course-correct.

Tip: Research shows it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic. Compaund tracks this milestone for you.

Identity-Based Habits

Instead of focusing only on what you do, Compaund encourages you to think about who you want to become. Create identities like "Athlete", "Reader", or "Mindful Person" in the Profile tab, then link habits to them.

Every time you complete a habit, it's a vote for that identity. Your Dashboard groups habits by identity so you can see your progress toward becoming the person you want to be.

iCloud Sync

Sign in with your Apple ID (on the Profile tab) to sync your habits, completions, journal entries, and identities across all your devices automatically via iCloud. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account — we never have access to it.

If you sign out, your data stays on the device but stops syncing. You can sign back in anytime.

Apple Health Integration

Compaund can optionally sync habit completions to Apple Health. Enable it in Profile → Apple Health. Depending on the habit category, completions are logged as:

This requires your explicit permission. Health data is handled entirely by Apple and is never sent to us.

Notifications

Compaund offers two types of local notifications (configure in Profile → Notifications):

All notifications are scheduled locally on your device. Nothing is sent to external servers.

App Lock

Protect your data with Face ID or Touch ID. Enable it in Profile → Privacy & Security. This is optional and can be turned off at any time.

Data Export & Deletion

Frequently Asked Questions

My streak broke even though I completed the habit. What happened?

Streaks are based on consecutive calendar days. If you missed a day between completions (and it wasn't a planned break), the streak resets. Check your calendar heatmap on the Progress tab to find the gap.

Can I track habits that aren't daily?

The current version focuses on daily habits, which is the most effective frequency for building lasting behavior change.

How do I edit or delete a habit?

Tap the habit on your Dashboard to open its detail view, then use the menu to edit or delete it.

Does Compaund work offline?

Yes. All data is stored locally on your device. iCloud sync happens automatically when you're back online.

How do I unlock more habit slots?

Build a 7-day streak on any habit to unlock 2 more slots, or a 30-day streak to unlock 3 more. These bonuses are permanent.
